Michigan State University reported a USDA NIFA award of more than US$16.2 million for continued renovation of its Plant Science Research Greenhouse Complex. Matching university funds raise the new support above US$32.5 million. The award comes through a programme for modernising agricultural research facilities.

Planned work includes improved environmental controls, LED lighting, taller growing spaces and automated shade and energy curtains. Earlier investment had already renovated much of the complex, while a substantial portion still required upgrades. The facilities serve plant-science research, teaching and extension, including work on crop resilience and pest management. Funding enables these improvements; research outcomes will depend on the experiments subsequently conducted.
