Universiti Putra Malaysia’s Institute of Plantation Studies has introduced AgriSMART Lestari, a smart greenhouse launched on 13 April 2026 and reported on its website in May. The facility brings together an IoT monitoring system, automated irrigation and mobile access to growing-condition controls.
The pilot involves the National Kenaf and Tobacco Board, which supplies mushroom blocks made using the inner material of kenaf stems. The partners are using the greenhouse to cultivate sisir, also called kukur, mushrooms and explore a productive use for industrial plant biomass.
UPM presents the installation as a platform for smart agriculture and circular production. Its announcement explains the intended integration and practical access features, but provides no comparative measurements of yield, energy consumption or irrigation savings. These remain questions for evaluation as the pilot develops.
