UBC Okanagan reported in April 2025 that Mohamed Shehata, John Braun and their students had received a Husky A300 robot through Clearpath Robotics’ PartnerBot programme. The platform provides a way to test navigation algorithms outside simulation and collect data in challenging environments.
The university account describes two application areas: wildfire research and precision agriculture. Agricultural collaboration with the Summerland Research and Development Centre and German partners involves AI, sensor-equipped drones and maps that could guide watering, fertilisation or targeted weed treatment. Laser weed removal was discussed as a possible intervention. The announcement concerned research infrastructure and development directions; it did not report a finished commercial weed-control system or measured farm-wide chemical reductions.
