Planet’s March 2026 product update introduced Crop Biomass Version 5, moving its daily cloud-free monitoring signal from 10-metre to 3-metre spatial resolution. The company identified smallholder landscapes and intensive cropping systems as important use cases for the finer detail.
The update uses PlanetScope as its main optical source and adds metadata such as recent-observation NDVI and probabilities of snow and water. Planet also described revised time-series processing to reduce response lag and improved harmonization to remove seam lines. The product is delivered through its Subscriptions API. A cloud-free derived signal should not be confused with a new cloud-free optical photograph every day.
