FAO announced a January 25–29 training programme in Muscat to strengthen drone operation for desert locust survey and control. Its Central Region and Western Region commissions organised the initiative with Oman’s Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources.
The programme brings together specialists from affected countries and combines classroom teaching, simulator sessions and field practice. Technical partners include aerial-application supplier Micron and local company Ankaa Space. The emphasis is on trained personnel and more consistent operating procedures as drone use moves beyond isolated pilots.
FAO positions the work alongside established locust information systems, satellite monitoring and geographic data. The announcement does not report a controlled comparison of drone spraying efficacy, quantified pesticide savings or the number of operators who ultimately completed certification.
