John Deere announced an agreement with SpaceX to provide satellite communications through the Starlink network. The January 2024 announcement targeted farms where unreliable cellular service limits access to connected precision-agriculture tools.
Deere described a dealer-installed, ruggedized Starlink terminal used alongside a 4G LTE JDLink modem on compatible machinery, connecting equipment to John Deere Operations Center. The initial plan called for a limited release in the United States and Brazil during the second half of 2024. This was a connectivity announcement rather than a promise that every machine or region would be supported; equipment compatibility and the commercial rollout were specific to the service.
