A Scientific Reports paper published on 22 September presents APLNet, a crop-monitoring framework tested using a half-acre cucumber field at GITAM in Karnataka, India. The study combines soil observations with leaf images to classify crop-health conditions and display information through an AgriPredict dashboard.

Field sensor readings were collected at 20-minute intervals through a solar-powered LoRaWAN gateway. Photographs were acquired separately with a camera and associated with nearby sensor timestamps. The field dataset comes from October–December 2024, although the paper was published in 2026.

The authors report strong classification results on their evaluated datasets. These results describe a research evaluation, not a demonstrated reduction in disease losses across commercial farms. Wider deployment would need evidence across new farms, seasons and disease conditions.
