ICAERUS announced its conclusion on 30 June 2026 after four years of work on rural drone applications. Its five core use cases covered crop monitoring in Spain, spraying in Greece, livestock monitoring in France, forestry and biodiversity in Lithuania, and rural logistics in North Macedonia and Greece.
The consortium reported two demonstration cycles and 28 demonstration events. Alongside the flights, it conducted environmental, cost and socio-economic assessments to compare drone approaches with conventional practices in the studied settings. Its online platform brought together technology information, training, business tools and a data-analytics library. These outputs offer a research and learning resource; benefits reported for particular scenarios should not be generalized to every crop, flight operation or service business without checking the underlying conditions.
