Makerere University reported the launch of drone-based data collection for NbS4Tea at Rwebitaba Tea Research Centre in Kyenjojo District on June 19, 2025. Researchers and postgraduate students received practical instruction in safe operation and data acquisition.
The five-year project is led by Aarhus University’s Emmanuel Arthur and brings together Danish and Ugandan partners, including Makerere, Uganda’s National Agricultural Research Organization and the Uganda Tea Association. Funding comes through the Danish Fellowship Centre under Denmark’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Aerial imagery is intended to support environmental observations alongside studies of tea varieties, soil amendments, agroforestry and irrigation. The announcement describes equipment deployment and research capacity, not measured yield gains caused by drones. It provides an earlier milestone in an ongoing international research collaboration.
