CSIRO reported progress with WaterWise, an irrigation-scheduling technology co-developed with Goanna Ag. The system uses sensing and machine learning to help anticipate crop water needs and inform irrigation decisions.

The agency said early tomato trials saved 35 percent of irrigation water in one season and also reported cotton yield improvements, without suggesting these outcomes apply automatically elsewhere. Its economic discussion concerned modelled potential benefits through 2030 rather than already realized savings. CSIRO described further development with Goanna Ag, including possible movement from fixed crop-canopy sensors toward drone or satellite inputs and extension to additional crops and markets.
