CropX acquired EnGeniousAg, a startup developing rapid field measurements of nitrogen in plant tissues, water and soil. The September 2024 announcement highlighted ion-specific electrode technology and plans to integrate the sensing capability with CropX’s farm-management system.
EnGeniousAg originated from Iowa State University research supported by ARPA-E’s ROOTS programme. Its founders included Michael Castellano, Liang Dong, James Schnable and Patrick Schnable. CropX positioned the acquisition as a way to connect nutrient measurements with agronomic recommendations. The announcement describes the acquisition and intended integration; it does not establish that a single nitrogen-management strategy or saving applies to all crops.
