Wageningen Livestock Research reported initial findings on the microbial product Kopros on 23 October 2026. Researchers compared treated and untreated sections of a dairy cattle house, collecting manure samples between September 2025 and February 2026. The treatment changed properties including acidity-related characteristics, nitrogen composition, organic matter and viscosity.
The team inferred a possible reduction of at least 30% in housing ammonia emissions from the manure measurements, but did not directly measure those emissions. Effects after slurry spreading remain uncertain: higher pH and ammonium could increase losses, while faster soil infiltration might counteract them. Further work is required before claiming a net emission reduction across the manure-management chain.
