University of Vermont Extension hosted a public field demonstration of Greenfield Robotics BOTONY weeding robots in Alburgh on 30 June 2026. More than 45 attendees watched autonomous machines mow between soybean rows. Researchers were evaluating whether these machines could suit Vermont conditions, including rocky soils and diverse farm operations.

The programme had six robots and had tested them in corn and soybeans. Aerial imagery was used to map field routes before operation, and the machines were designed around 30-inch rows. UVM described field capacity and battery endurance as important constraints, while rural connectivity had caused delays to starting robots remotely. The university stressed that its research was at an early stage rather than reporting validated farm profitability.
