In a results brief last updated on 31 May 2024, CORDIS described SCORPION’s modular robotic approach to precision spraying in steep-slope viticulture. Led by Portugal’s INESC TEC, the project integrated its technologies into the electric WETA platform.
The system combined prescription-map interpretation with variable-rate application and used LiDAR, cameras and inertial sensing to support navigation. Satellite positioning remained part of the architecture, with additional perception intended to help when GNSS conditions deteriorated. The report also described a modular treatment system that could change between spraying and ultraviolet application. These were project-reported capabilities rather than independently certified performance across all terrains. The development is significant for the integration of mobility and treatment control under conditions that are poorly represented by flat, open-field demonstrations.
