In a results brief last updated on 21 December 2021, CORDIS described ROMI’s approach to robotics for microfarms. The project brought together a battery-powered rover for mechanical soil work, a camera travelling along an overhead cable and a phenotyping scanner for plant modelling.
The cable camera offered repeatable crop observation without requiring drone flights. Its images could support mapping, while a software dashboard helped farmers monitor equipment and incoming information. The rover and cable system were developed with growers in France and at Valldaura Labs near Barcelona. The consortium reported lettuce-weeding demonstrations and work on automated plant measurements. Open-source control was a central part of the approach, but the article still described research tools and further development needs rather than a universally supported, ready-to-buy package.
