Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology reported a Robotics Dojo showcase held on 2 October 2024. The programme, part of the AFRICA-ai-JAPAN initiative, challenged students to develop self-operating machines using laser sensors for navigation.

The university reported forty-one participants from JKUAT, Dedan Kimathi University of Technology and the Pan African University Institute for Basic Sciences, Technology and Innovation. Coordinator Shohei Aoki connected the training to possible agricultural applications, including more precise operations and improved resource use. Teams worked with limited experimental budgets. The event demonstrated a skills-development pathway and student prototypes; it should not be read as evidence that the participating robots had already performed autonomous seeding, spraying or harvesting on commercial farms.
