The European Union’s delegation to the African Union announced Africa Initiative IV under Horizon Europe’s 2026–2027 work programme. Its 3 February notice gives an approximate allocation of €605.45 million across around 30 calls spanning health, the green transition, technology and scientific capacity. This is a cross-sector total, not an agriculture-only budget.
Agriculture-related topics listed in the notice include reducing plant-health and storage losses, greener food processing, the AU–EU food and nutrition security partnership, and the water–nutrient–energy relationship in climate-smart farming.
The initiative encourages, or in relevant calls requires, African institutions in collaborative consortia. Each call has its own scope and eligibility conditions. The announcement describes a funding programme; it does not mean that all projects or grants have already been selected.
