Ethiopia's Harmonized Fertilizer and Agronomy Solutions framework is replacing conflicting, generalized fertilizer messages with coordinated recommendations for particular sites and seasons. CGIAR's June 2026 account describes a system managed by the Ministry of Agriculture and the Ethiopian Institute of Agricultural Research, with CGIAR and delivery partners.
The NextGen decision-support tool combines soil, climate and agronomic information. The reported evidence base includes more than 2,700 on-farm trials across wheat, maize, tef and sorghum. Farmers receive advice through extension services and digital channels, including FarmerChat and LERSHA.
CGIAR reports wheat yield gains of 16–25% among the programme's results and a target of reaching two million farmers by 2030. These are programme-reported outcomes and a future ambition, not a guaranteed response for every farm.
