Verdant Robotics announced the commercial launch of its 2025 Sharpshooter on 21 October 2024 before FIRA USA in California. The system combined machine vision and machine learning with aiming nozzles intended to deliver treatment directly to selected plant targets. The company positioned it for weeding, crop thinning and fertility applications.
The launch described adjustable spray sizes, crop-protection buffers and reports on weed density and application volumes. Verdant also advertised high shot rates, millimetre-scale placement and substantial reductions in chemical use and hand-weeding costs. These are supplier claims that require checking in the relevant crop, growth stage and weed population. The development is significant because it treats precision application as a controlled targeting problem, rather than merely switching fixed nozzles on and off.
