A 2025 research preprint introduced AGRO, the Autonomous Ground Rover Observer, as a platform for traversing agricultural environments and capturing data. Authors Simar Ghumman, Fabio Di Troia, William Andreopoulos, Mark Stamp and Sanjit Rai described the use of machine learning, computer vision and other sensors.

The work connects localisation, environmental mapping and obstacle avoidance with a pistachio-yield application. It also positions collected observations as material for further machine-learning development. This is a research-system report, not evidence of a commercially supported robot or independently validated yield predictions across multiple growing regions and seasons.
